We’re told that, as adults, we should get between 7 and 9 hours of sleep per night. But how important is sleep, really?
Sleep allows the body to maintain normal cognitive function – things like memory, speech and coordination are heavily affected by a lack of sleep. Sleep also allows our bodies time to repair and recover, and it is absolutely essential for brain development (there’s a reason that babies and toddlers sleep so much!).
